Window Foils

Posted 15 November 2020

When uPVC windows first came on the market it was a bit like Henry Ford – “you can have any colour providing it is black “ – but in our industry case white

Then came along the foils which is a colour to the top surface – popular colours are grey , rosewood and golden oak – although the first colour was woodgrain mahogany

So, what is a foil and how it is applied

A foil is a form of laminate finish. They work by duplicating the colour and texture found on a particular type of wood. The pattern of fibres visible on the surface of the wood is known as the ‘grain’. Foil finishes replicate the ‘grain’ of a particular type of wood

After the required colour is chosen, the foil is applied via a heat bonding process, which fuses it to the surface of the uPVC. The fusion process creates a finish that is virtually unbreakable.

If the foil is damaged it is now possible to make invisible repairs so if the surface is accidently scratched there is a solution.

You can also have foils on both sides or just on the outside.
